App Privacy Policy

Last updated: 19 September 2026

This policy explains how the Cuts Avenue app, on Android and iOS, handles your personal information. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

It covers the app specifically. Our main privacy policy covers the salons and this website, and still applies to you as a client — this policy adds the parts that only exist because there is an app: your sign-in, push notifications, your phone's location, and deleting your account from inside the app.

Who we are

Cuts Avenue operates hair salons in Sydney and publishes this app. If you want to reach us about anything in this policy, write to support@cutsavenuesalon.com.au.

Signing in

The app signs you in with your mobile number. You enter the number, we send a one-time code by SMS, and you type it back. There is no password and we never see one. Your mobile number is your identity in the app: it is how we find the visits, points and offers already held against you at the salon.

We ask for your first name once, on your first run, so the app and the salon can address you properly. You can change it later in Profile.

What the app collects, and why

  • Your mobile number — typed at sign-in. It identifies you and it is what an SMS provider uses to send your code.
  • Your name — asked once, stored against your customer record.
  • A push token — a device identifier issued by Apple or Google, stored only if you allow notifications, and used only to deliver them. Turning notifications off removes it.
  • Your visits, points and offers — these already exist at the salon, some of them going back years. The app reads them; it does not create them.
  • Booking requests — the salon, service, date and any note you add.
  • Colour consultation answers — see the next section.
  • Feedback — ratings and any note you write. See "Feedback is not linked to you" below.

The app has no analytics SDK, no crash reporter and no advertising identifier. We do not track you across other apps or websites, we do not build an advertising profile, and we do not sell personal information.

The colour consultation asks a health question

If you start a colour booking, the consultation asks whether you have had a chemical service in the last twelve months, which one, and whether you have ever had a reaction to one. That last answer is health information, which the Privacy Act treats as sensitive information and protects more strictly than the rest.

We ask it for one reason: a stylist needs to know before putting colour on your hair. You choose whether to answer, and the app tells you what the answer is for at the point of asking. We collect it only with your consent, we attach it to your booking request so the stylist taking the appointment can see it, and we do not use it for anything else. If you would rather discuss it in person than type it, skip the question and raise it at the chair.

Your location never leaves your phone

The salon list can sort itself nearest-first. If you tap that, the app asks your phone for its location and uses it, on the device, to order five salons. It is not sent to us, not stored, and not shared with anyone. Nothing about your location reaches our systems at any point, and the feature is entirely optional — the list works without it, and you can decline the permission or change your mind in your phone's settings.

Notifications

Notifications are off until you allow them. We use them for things tied to your own visit — a booking request being confirmed, an offer you hold, a reminder about an appointment. You can turn them off in the app or in your phone's settings, and the app keeps working without them.

Feedback is not linked to you

The feedback screen stores your ratings and note with no customer identifier at all, and records the week rather than the moment you sent it. That is deliberate, so that what you say cannot be traced back to you and read alongside your name at the salon. The trade is that we cannot connect feedback to you afterwards either — including if you ask us to delete it, because we have no way to find which entries are yours.

Who else handles your information

We use a small number of providers to run the app, described by role rather than name:

  • a database and authentication host, which stores your record;
  • an SMS provider, which delivers your sign-in code;
  • Apple's and Google's push services, which deliver notifications to your device.

They process information on our instructions to provide the app, not for their own purposes. Some of them store or route information outside Australia, including in the United States. We take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with the APPs, but once information is overseas it may also be subject to the laws of the country it is in.

How long we keep it

Your customer record and visit history are kept while you are a client of the salon, because they are also the salon's business records. Push tokens are removed when you turn notifications off or uninstall the app. Feedback is kept indefinitely in a form that is not linked to you. Where the law sets a minimum retention period for a record, we keep it for that period.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from inside the app: Profile → Delete my account. Doing so destroys your sign-in, so the number can no longer be used to reach the account, and anonymises the customer record behind it.

Two honest limits. The salon's transaction records remain, because they are financial records the salon is required to keep — they simply stop naming you. And feedback you sent was never linked to you, so it cannot be located and removed.

Children

The app is not intended for children. We do not knowingly create an account for anyone under 13. Children are welcome in the salons; a parent or guardian books for them.

Keeping it secure

Information is held on managed cloud infrastructure, in transit over encrypted connections, and reachable only by the salon staff whose job requires it. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you and the regulator if a breach occurs that is likely to cause you serious harm, as the Privacy Act requires.

Accessing, correcting or deleting your information

Your name is editable in the app, and account deletion is in the app. For anything else — a copy of what we hold, a correction, or a question about it — contact support@cutsavenuesalon.com.au and we will respond within a reasonable time.

Complaints

If you have a privacy concern, please contact us first at support@cutsavenuesalon.com.au and we will work to resolve it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
